French Toast Sticks

This brings back memories of when I purchased frozen French toast sticks for my kids when they were young.  I came across some recipes and tried them on the Bonmat. Super easy and they can be frozen for meal prepping or stored in the refrigerator for the week. The addition of the orange zest gives a wonderful flavor to the cinnamon.

Since the bread is dipped in egg it does adhere to the Bonmat, so I would suggest trying the Flexiflat, or the Rectangular Mold too.

These are so much better than the frozen store-bought brand!

bonCook tools used: Perforated Baking Sheet, Bonmat, Mini Whisk, Le Petit Grater, Signature Spatula

Ingredients

  • 8 slices Texas toast bread

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest

  • 1/4 teaspoon Kosher Salt

  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries for serving

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place a Bonmat on the Perforated Baking Sheet.

In a small bowl, stir together the sugar and 2 teaspoons of the cinnamon.

Cut each slice of bread lengthwise into 4 strips.

In a shallow dish or bowl (any of the Round Molds work well),

Working one at a time, dip each stick of bread into the egg mixture.  Coat each stick on all sides, but do not allow it to become completely soggy.  Shake off any excess, then place on the Bonmat.  Repeat with the remaining sticks.

Sprinkle the French toast sticks with half of the cinnamon sugar and then turn over the sticks to sprinkle the other half of the mixture.

Bake the French toast stick for 15-20 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
